Wow, has it been 20 weeks all ready?, How time flys when you are having fun. Would I do this all again? you betcha. A lot of the tasks I would have liked to spend more time on researching and getting to know better. What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey? Let’s see my favorite discoveries would have to be wiki’s, avatars and google earth has been fun. Oh and blogging of course has been interesting. Oh and Pandora was fun although I haven’t been back since that week. Oh and signing up for Eons has been intesting lots of baby boomers out there.
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals? Well I have started a wiki with a coworker to brainstorm about a better system for handling and displaying our periodical collection, once we have a nice draft going with pictures we will invite the powers that be to take a looky see.
Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you? What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept? How time consuming new technology is, it might of been less stressful to give two weeks and two hours for each subject cause some of the tasks really required more than the allotted one hour a week. And if your out sick or on vacation or have a flush of work tasks that take priority well I know alot of people are still way behind. It’s been fun thanks for the ride.

Wow, I never thought I would be told to play a game at work and on work time at that! It is amazing how many free games you can play and how time just flys by, what a time stealer with nothing to show for it. I used to think making a quilt was time consuming but you always have something in the end that can last for years and if you make it for someone else what pleasure that brings to their life. When I was a kid playing outside with the kids was how we played. Anybody remember Red Rover Red Rover, or Freeze tag, Hide and Seek, or Football with the boys?
Now those were games to play, learning to be a team player exercizing your brain and your body. No wonder I’m out of shape now. grown-up kids can’t play fun games anymore. That is the pits about getting older. I think I’ll start another quilt.

I liked both Google Docs and Zoho. I especially liked the abilty at Zoho to not have to sign up you can sign in using your google or yahoo account. This might be helpful for those patrons needing to save a document quickly that don’t have a zip drive or floppy and that don’t have a gmail account but do have a yahoo account. I feel however that even though Zoho offers a wider range of software, Google Docs was easier for me at least to use.

I have always used Google but Yahoo had an interesting feature that was not on any other search engine. It was a “Warning Dangerous Downloads” in red type note on select sites, and at the top it said in red type ” 2 potenially harmful websites are marked on this page”. Both Google and Yahoo had the most pages of sites found so I would recommend them. Not sure about the red notices? Curious to do some further investigating whether or not google omits these choices or not.

I listened to LibVibe which gives a condensed version of Library News around the U.S. You can also read the whole article if you wish. It was interesting that in the middle of listening to the podcast there was a commercial about A.D.D.
I think Sno-isle could benefit by using podcasts on our webpage, I gather though the only way to listen to a podcast (please correct me if I’m wrong) is through bloglines. Where as a youtube talk is instant. Possibly providing a staff picks condensed tidbit of favorite books would be fun. Having a good reader would be very important though to get people to come back each day or week.
I learned about the Houston Public Central Library’s 17 million dollar makeover. They made the fourth floor (8,600 sq feet) a kids room.
“This area is for the kids and they can behave like kids when they visit. Quiet doesn’t live here” Just a little of what this room offers (available all the time) is Guitar Hero, Karaoke revolution, 24 desktop PC’s, 30 Laptop PC’s, 8 Sony Playstation, 3 consoles and 3 Nintendo Wii consoles.
The last line in the article said (which I feel is a great need in all communities)
“These kids need someplace where they can hang out and be kept busy
that keeps them out of trouble”

This was pretty cool, I made a couple of Magazine covers with my Grandchildren on them. One was Princess magazine for my oldest granddaughter and one was American Family magazine with all three grandchildren on the cover. I’d like to spend more time in there checking out the other online generators like for scrapbooking which sounded fun. But time is up so here is another joke for ya…
What did the bee say to the flower?
Hello Honey!

I have in the past looked into this Sno-Isle feature but not as indepth as this week. I think I might just need to install this baby at home. I found some great books, music and videos I would like to watch. And alot of the titles Sno-isle doesn’t have to check out which makes this a great service to extend a whole other library at your finger tips. wa lah, presto, it’s magic. I have promoted this service to patrons in the past for items that the library copies were all checked out but the patron needed it asap. So I showed them where they find it on the Sno-isle web page and how it works. So thanks 20 for 2.0 for making me dig in.
